Introduction

Thank you for showing an interest in our Theatre. The main aim of this sheet is to provide people new to our theatre with some information that many regular members will find common knowledge.

About the Theatre

The Arts Theatre Cronulla has been running in its current form since 1963. The building itself dates back to early 1900's, but has been modified to include the activities of other clubs from the School of Arts. The entire organisation is run on a volunteer basis, and as such is an amateur theatre. However our productions are of high class, and our patrons often remark on the professionalism of the production.

From small beginnings has grown the successful organisation of today. We currently stage four full productions per year and a one off, one act play especially for our members at our Christmas party function.

Rehearsal Schedules

A full production play requires at least four months of commitment to the theatre. After audition selection (our auditions are open to everyone, however you will need to become a member) there is approximately six weeks of rehearsals on two nights a week (normally either on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday).

These are followed by two weeks of technical rehearsals of three nights per week. All these rehearsal nights start at 7:30pm and end around 10 – 10:30pm.

It is suggested that if you know that you will not be available for 100% attendance to either rehearsals or the production, then make this known to the director now. It may or may not be a problem, but at least the opportunity for a work around can be considered.

On the last Sunday before the opening night, commencing at 2pm, we perform a full dress rehearsal in front of a preview audience.

There are at least two other days during this period the cast are expected to contribute. One day is for the removal of the previous productions set on the day after the last performance. The second is the painting of the set. This usually occurs two Sunday's before the preview performance. Both days start around 10am,and lunch is provided. Approximately two hours input is required.

Any cast member can also be involved in the set construction if they wish, so please ask the director for details.

The Season

During the season, we perform three shows a week, every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday nights commencing at 8pm. Cast should arrive no later the 7:30pm, and allow plenty of time for parking as Cronulla is very busy on these nights. We also perform one Sunday Matinee commencing at 3pm.

After every performance on Friday & Saturday night, supper & drinks are provided for the audience and cast, and provides a chance for both to mingle.

All cast receive four complimentary tickets per production, and also limited advance booking preferences for purchasing tickets. You will still need to plan and book early as nearly all shows are sold out very quickly.

Other Roles in the Theatre

There are many areas in theatre besides acting, and we could not perform without these roles being fulfilled. In fact these roles are the reasons for our continued success. We constantly need new members to participate as technicians, stage managers, front of house, box office, wardrobe, set building, committee roles etc.

Please see the director or any existing member for more information regarding membership application. As a member you also can receive complimentary tickets to other shows throughout the year by your involvement with the theatre.

New members are always welcome. There's a lot more to acting than just acting. Be involved, become a member.
